Quis Alienis Herba- that's me alright

I'm a college student, a geek, a plant nerd, a roleplayer, a writer, a cook, a club officer, a maker of plushies and a thrower of acorns. I have traveled and I have stayed put. I like to argue and cuddle and sew and walk. I have populated my room with more plants than is probably practical, and I have a stuffed hedgehod name Malachai who sits on my dashboard and sees everywhere I have been. I am not afraid to try something new. And here I am, telling you all this.

I'll answer

He hummed a bit at the subtle suggestion there was there, smirking at him. “Just a few,” he purred, flicking his tongue out to play with the piercing on his lip before looking forward again. “We’ll have to find the box with your bed for that.”

“Y’know, there’s always walls. You have a floor too…” He laughed a bit, placing the box down in a random room. “I’d invite you to my place, but the kids are napping.” He shrugged at the sharing question, rubbing the base of his neck. “I just see what I want and I take it,” he decided. “I love Demyx, yeah, but I really wanna get in your pants.” He laughed nervously, passing a hand over his face. “Jesus, I sound like a douche bag, don’t I?”

Mmm…Riku shivered faintly. Just the thought was tantalizing, and the darker edges on the tone Axel used made him eager to just give up on the whole bed thing and find any surface they could use.

Boxes down- carefully this time- and Riku paused to paw his hair out of his face and adjust his hat to hold it there. “Nothing wrong with either. But if I get distracted now, I’m never going to get all my stuff in here.” He stretched, wincing when something in his neck crackled. “Hm? Not at all. I’m the one who started it anyway. And you’re hot. ‘sides, if you were a douchebag, you probably wouldn’t care about your kids being asleep.”

He laughed softly as Riku spoke, watching him as thin fingers brushed albino strands back. He found the color of his hair a little fascinating, and he had to wonder if it was natural. Considering his eyebrows were just as light, however, he knew it had to be. He got a look of thoughtfulness on his face and tuned out whatever else Riku was saying, focusing on his lips as they formed words.

Before he could register what he was doing, he had stepped close enough to only put a hair’s breath of distance between their chests. He bent down slightly to Riku’s level and grabbed the bill of his hat, slowly pulling it off. He dropped it to the floor and ran a few of his bony thin fingers through the white fibers, a little unsurprised that it was just as soft as it looked. He let a barely noticeable smile come onto his face, leaning forward and just barely ghosting his lips over Riku’s.

“I think you need a break from packing…”

Axel was…watching him. It was an almost predatory look for a moment, hungry and calculating, noting his every move and feature. It made him shiver, skin warming with a blush. It was rare that someone really looked at him like that.

Big hands, long and bony, touching his hair, then his shoulder. Axel was right there in front of him, dropping his hat to the floor and smiling faintly, kissing him so lightly it was practically a breath against his skin. He blushed furiously and reached to tuch Axel in return, curiously smoothing a hand over his bicep and up to his shoulder.

“Wh…ah…yeah, I…that might be good…”

“You’re my best friend now,” he declared, very much serious. “You are definitely my best friend.”

“Hey, it’s cool,” he argued, saying it a bit too quickly. He really needed to stop getting so defensive over topics like the topic of his parents. Of course, when the time came, he would fill Riku in. Now just wasn’t the time for that. He picked up a box, taking less than he had last time as to not cause himself any harm. He was glad that Riku had began to walk, following him as he tried to think of his answer.

“I guess it depends how you look at it,” he finally decided, chewing the inside of his cheek. “I mean, I’ll get in your bed if you’ll have me. You’re hot as hell, so…” He trailed off, shrugging to hide how bold he had been with his compliment.

Riku grinned. Axel’s tone was…well, it was a little serious, but he liked the guy too much to care. One strange friend was better than anything like the last arrangement, which he really, really wanted to forget all about. “Excellent. Any more of my firsts you want to take, while we’re at it?”

He’d just get into bed with him, huh? That opened up a lot of possibilities. “Mmm…I’ll have to find my bed first. But that’s good to know.” He nibbled at his bottom lip, deliberately following Axel up the stairs on the next trip to get a better look at his backside. Mmmmmhm. Hot and snarky. Very nice. And bigger than him, an absolute godsend. “So you share?”

He hummed a bit at the subtle suggestion there was there, smirking at him. “Just a few,” he purred, flicking his tongue out to play with the piercing on his lip before looking forward again. “We’ll have to find the box with your bed for that.”

“Oh god,” he giggled, smirking widely at the mental image. “You gotta show me those things when you get a chance.” Yeah, it was sick. But Axel was sicker than hell. He was the type of person that laughed at dead baby jokes. “I bet. You should gimme one, just to freak Demyx out with it.”

“It’s alright,” he said quickly, shrugging and smiling to brush it off. “It’s not offensive. I just don’t like going into detail on my past, y’know? Just a… personal thing.” His legs nearly gave out with the force at which the scars stung, but he tried to blow it off as just a little trip. He didn’t answer the Demyx question until he picked up another box, not sure how to describe their relationship. “Uh… Friends, I guess,” he murmured, knowing there was nothing exclusive between the two of them. “Just good friends.”

Riku snorted. “You can take your pick. I’ve got some interesting ones- piercings and all. Getting them made was a pain in the ass.”

Back to the car, more boxes, lather, rinse, repeat. He couldn’t wait to be finished. “Sorry anyway. I didn’t mean to…bring up whatever it was.” Riku collected several small, awkwardly balanced boxes and sighed, then offered a hopeful smile. Maybe it was a little preemptive, but Axel was cute, and he pinged the radar loud and clear. “So…does that mean you’re on the market?”

He started back up the stairs without waiting for an answer, afraid he’d drop the unwieldy boxes if he did wait. He was pretty sure there was a bust of Einstein in one of them, and he’d hate to break it.

He just blankly stared at Riku, wondering if he heard the guy right. He nearly dropped the boxes as he broke out into spluttering laughter, hunching over with the force of the laughs that rolled out of him. “A-aha! That’s awesome!” Giggling and getting a little teary eyed, Axel eventually stopped  laughing, bumping the door open with his hip and following Riku’s direction for where to go. “Oh god, that’s just… Ha! That’s awesome, man.”

He sat the boxes down near Riku’s, relieved to have the weight off of his bony body. He chuckled at Riku’s comment, grinning proudly. “Oh, he’s a handsome little devil, alright. I’ll have to keep an eye on him. The girls might eat him alive.” He listened to Riku’s story of how he grew up with interest, giving him a bit of a nod and a forced laugh at the bit about the little growth. “I had a pretty weird childhood too, but… That’s just gonna be another story for another time.” The scars on the backs of his knees began to tingle a bit, as they always did when he thought of his father. “It’s not that big of a deal anyway.”

Trying to change the subject, he abruptly turned and walked out. “I’ll go get some more boxes.”

“I was trying to make a point. I’m not sure I made the one I’d intended to make, but it was worth the looks I got when I took the whole project to an art show. There…might have been fluorescent paint and a black light involved.” He couldn’t help but grin. Most of the people who knew about that project thought he was sick, not that it was funny. Funny was what he’d been aiming for in the first place. “And some of them make pretty good decoration, y’know?”

Oops. Riku winced. He knew a sore spot when he saw one, and that looked like a big one, which he’d apparently gone and jabbed at with a stick. “Um…sorry. Didn’t mean to say anything offensive.” He followed Axel out, quiet for a minute. “So…um…you and Demyx are…friends? Partners? Something else?”

“Hey, it’s no problem. You can come over to my place for dinner tonight. Kinda welcome you to the neighborhood, y’know?” He grabbed up a box, holding it in the same way Riku was. Wanting to show off a bit, even though he really wasn’t that strong, he grabbed a second box and stacked the two. “Hey, there’s nothin’ bad about that. I bet it’s interesting.”

The questions made him falter a bit and he started to walk for the door. He wasn’t sure what Riku would think of it, but he decided to answer honestly. “Uh, the boy, Jacob, he’s five months old. He’s mine and, uh… Demyx’s. The other one, the girl, Lily, she’s only a few months. She’s Demyx and his ex’s.” He laughed nervously, shrugging slightly. “It’s a weird situation, I know.”

Riku smiled, a little shyly. Getting to know people back home hadn’t been this easy. Axel, however, was easy to talk to, hot as hell, and friendly. “I’d like that. It’s be nice to meet more people around here. I don’t want to be the creepy artist no one wants to talk to. Not a good niche to fit into.” He headed for the door, casually looking back to admire the cording of the muscle in Axel’s forearms when he fetched a second box. “Well…I did this project on genital casting a few year ago…and I still have some of them.”

Inside and up the stairs. Getting the boxes up there didn’t really allow for much conversation, so it wasn’t until they were in the comfortable little apartment that Riku could remark on Axel’s living companions. “Wow, that’s really young. Must be cute, though. Kids that age almost always are, and if Jacob looks anything like you…he’ll be a knockout before pre-school.” The boxes he carried went on the nearest solid surface. “Weird? Nah. I’ve heard weirder. Hell, I was raised by my brothers. I hear there we had parents at some point, but…all I ever knew was a house full of guys that looked just like me and one drooling little growth on my oldest brother’s foot that turned out to be the only sibling younger than me. ‘s pretty weird. Weirder than two guys being respnsible and raising their kids.”

He just blankly stared at Riku, wondering if he heard the guy right. Axel laughed a bit, the system of not labeling anything reminding him of how he had packed up his own house. “Sounds easy enough. I’ll help you unpack some stuff, if you want. Not like I have anything else to do.” He wasn’t just trying to be neighborly now. He was in desperate need of something, anything, to help distract him from the cravings that were eating up the ends of his nerves by now. His fingers would occasionally twitch, even when he balled his hands into fists. He needed this distraction.

He got his fingers to hold still long enough to squeeze Riku’s hand in a shake before he stuffed it into his pocket, nodding at the name and nervously running his tongue along chapped lips at the question. Who was we? How was he supposed to explain his relationship with the people he lived with? It wasn’t like he and Demyx had actually titled their relationship. It was just… a relationship. He didn’t know. “A guy named Demyx and a couple kids,” he supplied, nervously shifting his weight on his feet. “Just the three of them and me.” As a dysfunctional family or something like that.

“Sure, if you want to. I can call for pizza or something, as a thank you.” Riku hoisted a couple of boxes, into his arms, bracing them against his hip. “I really appreciate this. And the unpacking. Just…if you find anything weird…I’m an artist. I’ve got some weird shit in there. I’m even responsible for some of it.”

The boxes went to the other hip. “Some guy named Demyx and two kids, huh? Your kids? His? Siblings?” He’d been raised by his brothers, so that wouldn’t bother him. Knew people his age with children of their own. But it would be nice to know, in case he met one of them; he didn’t want to say the wrong thing. “How old?”

Kids were hell to sketch, but he liked them on principle, liked how honest they could be, how cute, and how utterly distracting.

He shrugged at the words, pulling his hands from his pockets. “I don’t mind at all. I’d rather do this than watch. What should I carry first?”

He was glad that the new neighbor looked… normal. Not a crazy cat lady or some grouchy old man. Just a regular guy with really pale hair. “My name’s Axel, by the way. I live right next door.” He held out a hand to offer him a shake, remembering his manners. “We just moved in a few weeks ago, so we’re new too.”

“Anything you can carry. I’m not really sure where I’m putting anything right now, except kitchen stuff which goes…um…in the kitchen. I think I labelled those.” Most of the packing had been done between drinks and there might have been something Roxas had been smoking but he couldn’t remember. The fact that he couldn’t remember meant there probably had been something smoked that night. It explained the exquisite headache he’d had the morning after.

Riku dusted his hand off on his jeans before shaking Axel’s hand, pleased to find that the man’s handshake wasn’t at odds with his appearance. Good. He liked the way Axel looked, and what it said to him. Made him want to dig his charcoals out of their case and get some of those sharp angles down on paper. “Riku. Who’s we?”

Wheeeee!

Estrogen night is happening at last!

A tradition of years past, roomie and I haven’t had the time or energy to have a real estrogen night for awhile. Tonight, however, it’s skirts and makeup and shaved legs. We’re going out to a movie and dinner with another friend, and we’re gonna have FUN! Wooooo!
